Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Nominee, Onyeka Nwelue, whose debut feature documentary on Africa’s first female novelist Flora Nwapa, titled, The House of Nwapa, which premiered at Harvard University, was nominated for Best Documentary Award at the 2017 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and was screened at over 12 film festivals in the US, Zimbabwe, Trinidad & Tobago and Cuba, has released the visuals of the “Behind the Scene” of his latest offering, “Agwaetiti Obi?t?” (Island of Happiness), an adaptation of his novella, Island of Happiness, published by Hattus Books.
Shot entirely in Oguta in Imo State and in Igbo Language, is the story of Oguta, focusing on four friends, Bugzy (played by Trap musician, Bugzy Dvinci – Obinna Nwokedi), Willie (played by Willie Samuel Iboro), Arbenco (played by Arbenco Aigbe) and Akah (played by Lorenzo Menakaya), who return when NDDC promises to pay Oguta youths stipends. The narrative is centred on their relationship with their Oguta and her people – how they come to fight against oppressors and imperialists like Papi (played byPaulcy Nnamdi Iwuala), Chief Mbanefo (played by Harry B Anyanwu) and Reverend Father Amadi (played by Ugo Stevenson).
Nwelue serves as Executive Producer and Director of the film and it is produced by Blessing “Bondy” Onyekwere and Blessing Uzzi under Blues & Hills Pictures.
