New Research shows Ugandans of Asian Origin Contribute to 65% of Tax Revenue

New research shows that Ugandans of Asian origin are helping to drive the economy despite being forced out under President Idi Amin’s regime.

In 1972 Asians living in Uganda were given a ninety day ultimatum to leave the country.

According to the Uganda Investment Authority Asians now contribute up to 65% of Uganda’s tax revenues.

Rajni Tailor is one of the Asians who survived the hostile environment during President Idi Amin’s regime.

Now the chairperson of the Indian Association in Uganda, Tailor recalls his encounters with the former Ugandan leader.

Returning entrepreneurs have invested heavily in a range of industries, including textiles, agriculture, manufacturing, construction and mining.

Trade experts say Asian businesses are creating opportunities which are helping Uganda’s economy.
